Webinar: Getting your school board on the same page

It was several months after two recently elected school board members were seated, and the board president was feeling frustrated. The two new members spoke up frequently about the changes they wanted to see in the district. They voiced at meetings that they had been elected to make those changes.

The president agreed that new members had good ideas and that some of the proposed changes had merit. However, the district was in the middle of a five-year strategic plan. The plan was starting to yield results, including increased teacher retention and improved third grade reading scores.

The new board members didn’t know much about the strategic plan, and they did not feel invested in it. Their questioning prompted other board members to express their doubts, too. As a result, board meeting had devolved into endless discussions. The board president felt like they were spinning their wheels, not moving forward.
